40K Friday: A Few Chaos Marine Updates

Productivity has not been great this month despite my initial hopes. I did make some progress on the Chaos Knights and I have pretty much decided on set color scheme of red and black and various metallic shades for most of the army. There is still a ton of work to be done there so of course I got distracted again ...

Digging through parts and pieces and looking for appropriate decals I sidetracked into my Iron Warriors and started feeling like I really needed to pick up the rest of the units I had talked about adding & updating earlier in the year. There aren't that many but once I have them I could commit and probably build them all over a weekend. This of course meant that I needed to once again go through what I have and whether anything else might be cool to include and the week turned into a lot of sorting and looking and thinking and browsing and not much painting. I do have a better idea of what I want to do with it now so there's that. I also realized they had restocked the new Defiler so I grabbed one of those.

It's a big kit, lots of parts, and while it is also pricey - comparable to one of the big knights - it's a really good kit with just about all of the options you would want and in sufficient quantities to build them as well. If the profile allows you to have two of something then there are two of them in the kit, which may seem obvious but has not always been the case. Another example is the head selection there is a nice batch of them included here with both generic and god-specific types.

For now this one is going into the Iron Warriors alongside my old one but I'm sure I'll add a few more over the next few years so knowing the head and weapon option situation is solid is great.

Aside from that I'm looking over my Death Guard too because why not embrace the distraction? I picked up a bunch of the new stuff as it came out so I don't really need anything there - I just need to finish it ... like so much else.  This was another area where a new acquisition was part of it as I came across a really nice Mortarion model all painted up and decided to take the plunge.  Now that they have a primarch it feel like they deserve some time. I'm probably going to focus on the Knights and the Iron Warriors first but I would like to get more of these done.

I'm debating whether to make next year the "Year of Chaos" to focus on finishing the chaos forces here. Much of this year was spent on Imperials - Grey Knights, Custodes, Blood Angels, a little Guard - so it could be done. Maybe it would contain the distraction more. Not sure yet, we will have to see how Nov-Dec goes and how productive I can be leading into the new year.
