I think looking at it as a tip jar is a fairly realistic view. More than that and it starts to imply some kind of contract where people are paying you to produce something. The Evil Hat option is based more on this view and it seems to work for them but I suspect that depends on the "we're a game company creating adventures for sale" mindset as opposed to the "I'm writing blog entries when I feel like it."Blacksteelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16289298640828309072noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4999500110309022298.post-19561733199825245132015-02-23T19:06:23.178-06:002015-02-23T19:06:23.178-06:00I've considered setting up a Patreon myself.
...I've considered setting up a Patreon myself.

Actually I did set one up, but I haven't pulled the trigger yet on posting it to my blog.

The main reason for doing it would be, let's face it, that fact that I am quite financially challenged at the moment. I love blogging, and creating RPG ideas, system tinkering approaches, and the like, and this type of thing would basically pay for my internet.

I haven't done it yet because if people are going to pay me, I want to be able to produce material worth paying for, no matter how much, or how little, the donation. If I can't get my act together one month, I will feel like I owed people their money back.

Patreon is a weird bird. I like the idea a lot, in theory, but I am not sure it works the way I think it should in practice.

A virtual tip jar, that I could get behind.Adam Dicksteinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04840144928096089178noreply@blogger.com
